Next 25 August at 14:30 , during the round table by Acli Terra at the 47th edition of the Meeting for Friendship among Peoples Pippo Russo will present his new book to the public for the first time.
The text, co-written with the social researcher Marcello Cabria, has a title that raises highly topical issues: “Regenerating the Earth – the challenge of generational handover in agriculture.
The book's contents will be the subject of discussion on that day, which will feature guests of international calibre: from economist Attilio Celant to Crea manager Paolo Gramiccia, or to mention just a few, university professor Ettore Varricchio, Car administrator Massimo De Simoni, and urban planner and former parliamentarian Francesco Prina.
Russo, Sicilian by birth, but Florentine since his university days, is today a journalist and sociologist, and a researcher at the University of Florence.
He thus explained his choice to write such a text:
“The issue of generational turnover is a crucial theme for the sustainability of agricultural systems, along with everything connected to it: food security, biodiversity, protection against hydrogeological instability, landscape preservation, combating the depopulation of inland areas, and the maintenance of community ties. The great prevalence of the individual-family farm model, which has survived the industrialisation of agriculture, has long been a strength. However, it is now becoming an element of fragility during a transition marked by negative demographic indicators and an uninterrupted migration towards cities. This requires active policies to encourage both the retention of young people from farming families and the entry of young people from outside agricultural systems.
