After the drubbing in the Champions League against Club Brugge (4-1), Monaco returned to the Stade Louis II to seek redemption in the league against Metz. The most eagerly awaited was certainly Ansu Fati, the new ‘luxury’ acquisition of Monaco's summer football market along with Paul Pogba.
The Barcelona-owned winger has taken some time to recover his fitness, but in the Principality much is expected from a player who has always been considered a promise. Already the author of a goal in the defeat against Belgium's Brugge in Europe last Thursday (4-1), this time he made himself the absolute star of the match by contributing a brace to complete the comeback against Metz (5-2).
This performance is even more impressive if we consider that today's was his home debut for Monaco. After training individually at the start of the season, he had only returned to the squad on Thursday for the Champions League.
Today's match started on an uphill slope for the home team, which conceded the disadvantage goal after just 13 minutes (Diallo, 13’, 0-1). After restoring the balance with Biereth (28’, 1-1), Ansu Fati gave his team the equaliser just 38 seconds into the second half (46’, 2-1), becoming the youngest scorer on his Ligue 1 debut since Yacine Bammou (with Nantes against RC Lens on 9 August 2014). Fabulous debut for the winger who even took home a brace (83’, 3-2).
In the final, the home team diluted with Kouao's own goal (86’, 4-2) and the talented baby, Ilenikhena (90’+3, 5-2).
A precious victory that allows AS Monaco to take second place on equal points with Psg (1st), Lyon (3rd) and Strasbourg (4th).
