Autumn is a season of transition, when the air becomes cooler and our skin also changes, after a summer full of sunshine. There are several daily measures we can take to support our facial skin during this change of season.
There are five valuable tips for taking care of the skin during the autumn transition season. This also helps prepare it for the coming winter.
- Hyaluronic acid: instant hydration
Hyaluronic acid should be considered one of the pillars of hydration. A small amount of this component is equivalent to a large boost of hydration. It is better to opt for a hyaluronic acid serum as it is absorbed more quickly and has higher concentration levels. For optimal results, apply it twice a day, morning and evening. In addition to keeping the skin hydrated, hyaluronic acid helps reduce wrinkles, contributes to the repair of the skin barrier and protects against inflammation.
- Double cleansing and steaming for flawless skin
Double cleansing is the key to clean, radiant skin this autumn. Start by using an oil-based cleanser or conditioner to remove make-up, followed by a water-based cleanser for deeper cleansing. For a more refined touch, steam can be used to cleanse the face by opening the pores. This makes the whole cleansing process more effective. Simply fill a sink with warm water (and sometimes perfumed oil) and immerse your face in it for a few minutes. It is essential not to wash your face with this water, as it may clog the pores.
- Avoid make-up removal wipes
Make-up removal wipes are strongly discouraged, as they can damage the hydrolipid film of the skin. Most of these products contain chemicals that strip the skin of its natural oils, causing dryness and dehydration. Moreover, they are harmful to the environment and take decades to decompose. For those who prefer them, they can be applied after using a mild facial cleanser, as removing make-up with a simple wipe can trap dirt in the pores and cause skin rashes.
- Delicacy around the eyes
The skin around the eyes is particularly thin and prone to ageing. It is recommended to remove make-up particularly gently. To do so, soak a cotton pad with micellar water and hold it over the eye for 10-20 seconds to allow the make-up to dissolve. Use a cotton bud to remove any residual make-up near the eyelashes. When applying eye cream, use your ring finger to make gentle circular movements on the eyelids and around the eyes.
- SPF: the best friend all year round
The sun is present all year round, regardless of the season, and can cause serious damage to the skin. It is important to use broad-spectrum sun protection (SPF) on a daily basis. For effective protection, an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30 is recommended. The SPF should be applied before make-up and can also be reapplied during the day to keep the skin healthy and protected.
