Great news for Italy: the Italian Cuisine has been included in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the’UNESCO. An award that rewards not only the dishes, but the entire social system that “fosters inclusion” and strengthens “affection”, as stressed by Minister Tajani.
It is the first cuisine in the world to be recognised in its entirety. This was decided unanimously by the Intergovernmental Committee
of UNESCO, which met in New Delhi, India. According to the decision, Italian cuisine is a “cultural and social blend of culinary traditions”, “a way to care for oneself and others, express love and rediscover one's cultural roots, offering communities an outlet to share their history and describe the world around them”.
