The swine fever virus
The number of cases of wild boar carcasses positive for the African swine fever virus in Liguria from the first detected in the municipality of Isola del Cantone (Genoa) on 11 January 2022. This is 44.6% more than the 789 cases in Piedmont, where on 7 January 2022 the National Reference Centre for the study of pestivirus and asphivirus diseases at the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Umbria and Marche confirmed the first case of swine fever in continental Italy in a wild boar carcass found in the municipality of Ovada (Alessandria). These are the data from the latest bulletin of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta. In Liguria, five new positives were found: one in the province of Genoa in Sestri Levante, three in the province of Savona, two in Albisola Marina and one in Cairo Montenotte, and one in the province of La Spezia in Zignago.

Among the most affected Ligurian municipalities there are Genoa with 276 cases in total since the beginning of the epidemic, Sassello with 59, Rovegno with 54, Uscio with 44, Rossiglione with 40, Torriglia with 37, Borzonasca with 36, Varazze with 35, Serra Riccò with 25, Lumarzo with 24, Fontanigorda with 23, Bargagli and Davagna with 22 each and Busalla with 17.
