Italy, the founding country in 1910 of the International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean and Black Seas (CIESM), returns today as a full member of its Executive Council. Since the birth of the Commission, Italy has had a leading role in marine research, distinguished by cutting-edge technology, scientific infrastructure and oceanographic missions that made Italy an international beacon in this field. Today, with 23 Member States, CIESM continues to collect and sharing valuable scientific datafrom rising deep-sea temperatures, to the arrival of alien species, to the growing risks of climate change. Italy's return to lead the CIESM marks the resumption of a long tradition of international scientific collaboration, beyond geopolitical borders. The Commission expresses its deep gratitude to the Honourable Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, to the Hon. Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of University and Research of the Italian Republic, and to His Excellency Manuela Ruosi, Italian Ambassador to the Principality of Monaco, for the valuable commitment that made this result possible.

L'Italie, pays fondateur en 1910 de la Commission Internationale pour l'Exploration Scientifique de la Méditerranée et de la Mer Noire (CIESM), reprend aujourd'hui à parti entière son siège au sein de son Conseil Exécutif. Dès la création de la Commission, l'Italie a joué un rôle de premier plan dans la recherche marine, se distinguant par des technologies de pointe, des infrastructures scientifiques et des missions océanographiques qui firent de ce pays un véritable phare international dans ce domaine. Aujourd'hui, avec ses 23 États membres, CIESM continues to collect and share scientific data of great value: from the increase in deep water temperatures, to the arrival of exotic species, and even to the acute risks linked to the changement climatique. Le retour de l'Italie dans la direction de la CIESM marque la reprise d'une longue tradition de coopération scientifique internationale, au-delà des frontières géopolitiques.
