Acli Terra, the Professional Association for Agribusiness and the Environment of Acli, and CIESM, the Commission for Studies and Explorations in the Mediterranean, after three years of intense collaboration, signed on Friday 28 November 2025 a memorandum of understanding aimed at the mutual training of their employees, collaborators and managers.
La CIESM (Commission Internationale pour l'Exploration Scientifique de la Méditerranée) is an independent organisation that brings together 23 member states, hundreds of marine institutes and thousands of researchers from all over the Mediterranean and Black Sea basin.
Founded at an International Conference in Madrid in November 1919, the Commission promotes international scientific research on marine sciences through the shared use of national research stations and scientific exchange.
ACLI Terra, founded in 1948 as the representative organisation of the Italian rural world within the framework of Christian doctrine and promoted by the Christian Associations of Italian Workers, today has around 50,000 members with offices throughout Italy. Over the years it has broadened its associative mission, also dealing with maritime and environmental issues.
With the new protocol, both organisations aim to strengthen the training and professional development of their staff by enhancing the exchange of experience and expertise.
Laura Giuliano, Director of CIESM, states:
«I am delighted to welcome the new, non-binding but perspective-rich cooperation agreement between CIESM and ACLI Terra. In these two years of working together, I have witnessed ACLI Terra's far-sighted commitment to promoting causes that are decisive for civil society, such as building resilient social systems to climate impacts and turning crises into opportunities for future generations.
The recent joint conference made possible by the indefatigable Enrico Toja and supported by ACLI Terra, CIESM and the University of Pollenzo showed how promising the study of family economic models can be in supporting natural emergencies, including invasive marine species.
The shared growth between ACLI Terra and CIESM already shows how the exchange of experience and knowledge can enrich both institutions, strengthening their respective competencies.»
Nicola Tavoletta, National President of ACLI Terra, states :
«The synergy between our organisations, which are different but both have a long history, can improve the working effectiveness of their respective staff, where the progression of training is a major advantage in pragmatically finding the best solutions for members and the community.
It is an alliance on the international scene that can contribute to the preservation and development of the coasts and the Mediterranean by bringing in qualified women and men.»
